Version siehe Mappe Wasserzeichen AES (VG etwas größer, Gegenzeichen ein wenig anders geformt) Remarks: Eineder, S. 169: "[…] the papermaker Valentino Galvani, of whose product the following is recorded: he was the founder of an excellent paper industry near the southern frontiers of the old Völkerstaat. In the province of Friuli he founded his paper-mill. Although his natural market was Venice, the sale of his paper to Triest and to the north was also possible. Venice sold entire cargoes of paper to the Levant and other markets overseas. Why should it not be possible for Galvani to do the same thing via the port of Trieste. […] Unfortunately, no details are known are ascertainable from during Valentino Galvani’s lifetime; we can, however, reconstruct his work and its quality from the sample of paper still available. When he died in the early years of the nineteenth century, he left four paper-mills to his sons Anton and Karl. One of these was situated in Pordenone (Portenau), one in Cordenons (this was the stamp in one in Rorai-Porcia, all in the province of Friuli, with depots in Udine.” RISM-ID: 659000450 659000762 659000776 659000770 659001648 659000678 659000705 659001825 659000653 659001643 659001865 659002546 659002612 659002204 659001840 659002443 659000837 | ![]() ![]() | ![]() ![]() |
This watermark-collection was compiled by Eva Neumayr and Lars Laubhold (RISM Salzburg, Répertoire International des Sources Musicales) from the Dommusikarchiv, the music collection at the Archiv der Erzdiözese Salzburg during two FWF sponsored projects ( P 20309 and P 23195, leader of both projects: Ernst Hintermaier). If you have new information on one of the watermarks, please contact Eva Neumayr. The web presentation was implemented by Emanuel Wenger (Vienna, ÖAW).
